چکیده

In this paper, we present rational approximations based on Fourier series representation. For periodic piecewise analytic functions, the well-known Gibbs phenomenon hampers the convergence of the standard Fourier method. Here, for a given set of the Fourier coefficients from a periodic piecewise analytic function, we define Fourier–Padé–Galerkin and Fourier–Padé collocation methods by expressing the coefficients for the rational approximations using the Fourier data. We show that those methods converge exponentially in the smooth region and successfully reduce the Gibbs oscillations as the degrees of the denominators and the numerators of the Padé approximants increase. Numerical results are demonstrated in several examples. The collocation method is applied as a postprocessing step to the standard pseudospectral simulations for the one-dimensional inviscid Burgers’ equation and the twodimensional incompressible inviscid Boussinesq convection flow.

Numerical investigation of natural convection phenomena in uniformly heated trapezoidal Cylinder inside an elliptical Enclosure

A numerical study of the natural convection of the laminar heat transfers in the stationary state was developed in a horizontal ring and compared between a heated trapezoidal internal cylinder and a cold elliptical outer cylinder. This annular space is traversed by a Newtonian and incompressible fluid. The Prandtl number is set to 0.7 (air case) for different Rayleigh numbers. The system of equ...

A Fast Immersed Boundary Fourier Pseudo-spectral Method for Simulation of the Incompressible Flows

Abstract   The present paper is devoted to implementation of the immersed boundary technique into the Fourier pseudo-spectral solution of the vorticity-velocity formulation of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary conditions are implemented via direct modification of the convection and diffusion terms, and therefore, in contrast to some other similar ...

Spectral element simulations of buoyancy-driven flow

This paper is divided in two parts. In the first part, a brief review of a spectral element method for the numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is given. The method is then extended to compute buoyant flows described by the Boussinesq approximation. Free convection in closed two-dimensional cavities are computed and the results are in very good agreement with the ava...

A new parallel strategy for two-dimensional incompressible flow simulations using pseudo-spectral methods

A novel parallel technique for Fourier-Galerkin pseudo-spectral methods with applications to two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and inviscid Boussinesq approximation equations is presented. It takes the advantage of the programming structure of the phase-shift de-aliased scheme for pseudo-spectral codes, and combines the task-distribution strategy [Yin, Clercx and Montgomery, Comput. Fluid...

Reentrant Hexagons in non-Boussinesq Convection

While non-Boussinesq hexagonal convection patterns are well known to be stable close to threshold (i.e. for Rayleigh numbers R ≈ Rc), it has often been assumed that they are always unstable to rolls already for slightly higher Rayleigh numbers. Using the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for parameters corresponding to water as a working fluid, we perform full numerical stability analyses ...
